Accommodation Tips for Paris
Hotels, hostels, apartments, and where to stay
Central Paris hostels: €35-50/night in dorms.
MIJE Fourcy (Marais): €28/night in 17th century mansion, €6 breakfast. Book direct for best rates, Rue de Fourcy.
Generator Paris (10th): €32/night, modern, good security, 5 minutes from Gare du Nord on Métro Line 4.
Hotel des Jeunes (4th): €25/night but 1am curfew on Rue de Fourcy. Worth it if you're not hitting Pigalle bars.
Budget hotels: Hotel Chopin in Passage Jouffroy (9th), €85/night double. Tiny but inside covered passage near Grands Boulevards Métro.
Airbnb Belleville/Ménilmontant: €40-60/night whole apartments. Line 11 to République takes 15 minutes.
Total daily budget: €50 including accommodation, food, Navigo transport if you shop at Monoprix and cook meals.
The airbnb situation in paris is honestly bonkers right now. So many listings are just hotels pretending to be apartments, or apartments with like 6 separate rooms being rented out.
Stayed in what was supposed to be a 'cozy studio in montmartre' and it was literally a converted closet with a murphy bed. Host had like 47 other listings all identical. Felt like a scam hotel operation
Better options: mama shelter hotels are like €80-120/night and actually fun, plus you know what you're getting. Or look at smaller boutique places on booking.com. The hotel des grands boulevards is gorgeous if you can swing €200+.
If you do airbnb anyway, reverse image search the photos and make sure the host has real reviews going back years. Too many new accounts with fake reviews now. Trust your gut if something feels off
Airbnb got heavily restricted in central paris so most of what you see listed is either illegal or way overpriced. Lots of hosts moved to booking.com or local sites instead.
If youre staying longer than 4 nights look at apart hotels like adagio or citadines. Similar price to airbnb but actually legal and you get proper cleaning/towels. Plus they dont randomly cancel on you three days before arrival.
Short term rentals under 4 nights are still allowed but the good ones get booked months ahead. Just saying dont count on finding a cheap apartment rental last minute anymore.
Stayed in 4 different hostels around paris and here's what to expect if youre not a 20 year old backpacker. Most hostels fine with older travelers but vibe varies a lot between arrondissements.
Generator hostels (république and colonel fabien) more professional, less party atmosphere, good for people who want hostel prices without teenage chaos. Mije hostels in le marais are historic buildings around place des vosges, quieter, slightly more expensive but worth it for location near métro saint-paul.
Avoid party hostels near gare du nord unless you want noise until 3am. Look for places with private room options if shared dorms feel weird at your age around république.
Honestly airbnb prices so high now in marais that hostel private rooms (€60-80) competitive with hotels and you get kitchen access. Plus other travelers usually interesting to talk to regardless of age, especially in république area hostels.
Was trying to book an airbnb for a week in paris and everything is either super expensive or has weird restrictions now. Apparently theres new laws about short term rentals so lots of hosts are doing minimum 7 night stays or making you register with the city government?
Ended up booking a hotel because airbnb prices were like €150/night for tiny studios and most good places were booked months ahead. Regular hotels were actually cheaper for decent rooms.
If youre planning more than 3-4 months ahead airbnb might work but for spontaneous trips just book hotels. The whole short term rental thing got really complicated with tourism regulations.
Hotels also include breakfast sometimes and you dont have to worry about cleaning fees or weird house rules about shoes off and quiet hours.
