honestly the latin quarter is a complete tourist food nightmare and it makes me genuinely angry thinking about it. Overpriced garbage french food everywhere and those guys outside restaurants literally grabbing your arm trying to drag you inside. Avoid that whole area for eating
Belleville is where actual parisians go though and the food is insane. Rue de belleville between the metro stops has the best asian food in paris. Pho 14 at 129 avenue de choisy does massive bowls for 8 euros that could honestly feed two people. La consigne on rue de la mare does natural wine and small plates that wont destroy your budget. Le baratin on rue jouye rouve is proper french bistro without the tourist markup
Take metro 2 or 11 to belleville station and just walk around honestly every corner has something incredible. Found this lebanese place llameh at 42 rue de tourtille that does shawarma for 6 euros that was better than anything ive had in the fancy arrondissements. Also theres this chinese noodle spot dong huong at 14 rue louis bonnet where you can get hand pulled noodles for like 10 euros
Trust me the diversity up there is incredible and prices are what locals actually pay. Plus you get to see a neighborhood that isnt completely overrun with tour groups
Honestly the restaurants around old town square are absolutely criminal. 500 czk for mediocre goulash that costs 200 czk literally anywhere else. They bring you bread you didnt order then charge you 50 czk for it. Total scam operation targeting tourists who dont know better.
Take metro line a to náměstí míru and eat in vinohrady neighborhood instead. Proper czech restaurants where locals actually eat. lokál locations serve real goulash around 250 czk - the beef is tender and the sauce has actual flavor unlike the watery tourist slop. Pilsner urquell costs 45 czk not 90 czk.
Vinohrady has restaurants like u fleku brewery (been operating since 1499), globe bookstore cafe for lighter meals, and proper neighborhood pubs where you wont get the overpriced bread scam. Streets like korunní and italská are packed with family-run places.
Trust me i spent way too much money learning this the hard way on my first prague trip. Now i never eat within 3 blocks of any major tourist sight except maybe that one place u červeného páva if youre absolutely stuck. Vinohrady has better food better prices and you wont feel like youre getting robbed every single meal
Honestly campo de fiori is just overpriced tourist theater while testaccio is where actual romans shop for food the price difference is criminal we're talking €4.80/kg for tomatoes at campo vs €1.90/kg at testaccio same goes for mozzarella di bufala €16/kg vs €11/kg you'll save serious money
Testaccio market is at via benjamin franklin near piramide metro station the vendors actually know their stuff and will teach you how to select proper pecorino or tell you which artichokes are best for carciofi alla romana the trapizzino stall inside does these incredible pizza dough pockets stuffed with traditional dishes like chicken cacciatore or oxtail stew trust me it's like street food but elevated
Campo de fiori looks instagram pretty but the quality is garbage half those vendors don't even know what they're selling testaccio opens 6am monday to saturday take metro line b to piramide then walk 8 minutes down via marmorata go in the morning when everything is fresh and romans are doing their daily shopping honestly this is where you taste the difference between tourist rome and real rome
Honestly the bazaar itself is incredible for shopping and soaking up medieval cairo vibes but eating here will absolutely ruin your day and destroy your wallet. No restaurant has printed menus anywhere and they completely exploit tourists who dont know local prices. Watched multiple people pay 800 egp for basic grilled chicken that costs 200 egp literally anywhere else in downtown cairo
Trust me the restaurants inside have figured out that tourists have zero clue about egyptian food prices and they ruthlessly exploit it. For actual good egyptian food that wont bankrupt you walk five minutes to naguib mahfouz cafe on midaq alley which has real printed menus and decent traditional dishes for 150-250 egp. Or just treat khan el khalili as pure shopping therapy and eat at proper restaurants in downtown after
Go early morning sunday through thursday to avoid the absolute worst tourist crowds and definitely watch your valuables because pickpocketing is a real thing in the narrow alleys. Haggle aggressively on everything and use a currency app to check current gold prices if youre buying jewelry since they quote completely made up numbers to tourists. The back sections past the main tourist drag have genuine antiques and amazing spice vendors who actually know their stuff
Forget everything you read on travel blogs honestly. The main tourist spots at tsukiji are complete garbage now and cost double what they should. Been eating here for 4 years and trust me locals know better
Yamashita for tamago sandwich - this tiny stall near gate 6 has a line of japanese salarymen every morning at 6am which tells you everything. ¥200 for the most perfect egg sandwich youll ever taste. Creamy texture like nowhere else
Maruchu for sashimi bowls - zero english menu which is honestly the best sign possible. Just point at whatever looks freshest that day. Around ¥800 for cuts that cost ¥3000 in ginza. Old guy behind counter has been there 20 years
Nameless coffee stand next to jishu shrine - ancient vendor makes incredible coffee for ¥150 using beans from kyoto. No fancy machine just pure skill and a beat up kettle. Locals queue here not at those instagram cafes
Daikan for tamagoyaki - back alley spot where tsukiji workers eat lunch. Thick sweet egg blocks for ¥300. Completely different from tourist versions
Honestly skip daiwa and jiro completely those places are tourist jokes now. Actual locals laugh at the 2 hour lines. Same fish costs half the price 50 meters away
