Best city running route available. Start Camden Lock, follow canal east through Islington past Angel, continue through Hackney reaching Victoria Park. About 8 miles total but turn around anywhere convenient.
Completely flat terrain, minimal road crossings, see London parts tourists never visit. Early morning optimal - fewer cyclists and dog walkers. Victoria Park includes proper 5K loop for additional distance.
Toilet facilities Victoria Park and Mile End Park. Water fountains work inconsistently so carry your own. Mind aggressive cyclists during rush hours - they show zero patience.
Three weeks solo in Phuket taught me some expensive lessons that every woman traveling alone needs to know upfront. The island's generally safe, but certain scams specifically target solo travelers, particularly women who might feel pressured to resolve situations quickly.
Jet ski scams (this will ruin your trip): Never, ever rent from beach operators in Patong. They deliberately damage the ski themselves — A small scratch you'll never notice — Then demand 15,000-20,000 baht for 'repairs' when you return. The moment this happens, call Tourist Police at 1155 immediately and refuse to pay anything until they arrive. I watched this happen to three different women during my stay. The operators count on tourists feeling intimidated and paying to avoid confrontation.
Motorbike rental passport scams: Many shops hold your passport as collateral, then mysteriously discover 'damage' when you return the bike, demanding thousands in repairs for scratches that were already there. I learned to rent only through my accommodation or find shops accepting cash deposits instead. Take detailed photos of the bike from every angle before riding away — This saved me 8,000 baht when they tried claiming I damaged the exhaust.
Safe neighborhoods for solo women: Kata and Karon beaches feel exponentially safer than Patong's chaos — Smaller scale, more families, easier to spot trouble. The guesthouses here are run by local families who genuinely look out for solo travelers. Phuket Old Town is perfectly fine during daylight hours, but avoid walking alone after 10pm when the streets empty out. Bangla Road in Patong becomes aggressive and handsy after midnight — I learned to leave before the drunk crowds arrived.
Transport and evening safety: Grab works excellently for night rides and shows driver details and route tracking. Songthaews (local shared taxis) stop running around 6pm, so plan your return journey accordingly. Beach taxis will absolutely try to overcharge solo women — Quote half their asking price and negotiate firmly before getting in. Trust your instincts always. If something feels wrong, it probably is, and removing yourself from uncomfortable situations is never an overreaction.
Skip the old town pub crawls filled with drunk foreigners paying 120 czk for beer. Letná Beer Garden is where prague locals actually unwind - massive outdoor space overlooking the vltava river with zero tourist circus atmosphere.
Take tram 12, 20, or 25 to letenské náměstí stop, then walk 5 minutes through letná park following signs. Enormous beer garden operates from april through october, serves proper czech beer (pilsner, kozel, gambrinus) for 60-80 czk instead of inflated tourist prices. Cash only operation - small atm near entrance.
The location requires actual effort to reach so you get families, couples, and locals meeting after work instead of bachelor parties. Incredible panoramic views over prague castle and the river especially during sunset hours. Food trucks serve traditional czech snacks - klobása sausages, hermelin cheese, proper goulash.
Evening atmosphere feels authentically prague - kids playing football while parents chat over beer, older czech men playing cards, university students celebrating exam results. Zero aggressive promoters or overpriced shot dealers like you encounter in tourist pubs around old town square
Songthaews (baht buses) are Pattaya's circulatory system—master them and you'll move around for 10-20 THB per ride instead of paying tourist taxi prices. Flag them down by extending your arm clearly, pay the conductor when they approach, and press the red buzzer when you want to stop. Be aware that some drivers may try to overcharge tourists, so knowing standard fares helps avoid paying more than 30 THB for any regular route.
Main Beach Road Loop runs counter-clockwise and covers 80% of what tourists need: south down Beach Road past all the hotels, left turn before Walking Street, north up Second Road (parallel street) to Dolphin Roundabout, then back south on Beach Road. Perfect for beach-to-shopping runs and costs exactly 10 THB.
Pattaya-Jomtien Route starts from the baht bus terminal on Second Road, just south of South Pattaya Road junction (look for the covered waiting area with route maps). Runs every 3-5 minutes during daylight hours, 15-20 THB depending on distance. This route connects Central Pattaya to Jomtien Beach and the night bazaar area.
Fixed routes within city limits cost 10 THB, cross-town rides cost 15-20 THB, and charter rides (private hire) cost 200-400 THB depending on distance. Much more reliable than motorbike taxis and infinitely cheaper than Grab during surge pricing. Download Grab as backup for late nights or rainy weather when baht buses become scarce.
This contemporary mosque breaks all the traditional rules and it's absolutely beautiful. Designed by Zeynep Fadıllıoğlu, the first woman to design a mosque interior in Turkey, it features crystal chandeliers, minimalist prayer rugs, and a stunning blend of modern and classical elements.
Take the ferry to Üsküdar and walk 10 minutes from the pier. Entry is free, dress code applies (long pants, covered shoulders). Open daily except during prayer times. The calligraphy and geometric patterns are completely different from what you'll see in older mosques.
Best visited in late afternoon when the natural light hits the interior just right. Much quieter than the famous mosques in Sultanahmet.

That advice about asking women/families for help is universal and so important. Local women especially will steer you right.
