Zostel Cancún downtown near Parque de las Palapas is clean, safe, 400 pesos per night in dorms. Good social atmosphere without drunk teenagers vomiting in hallways. Kitchen facilities and lockers with actual working locks.
Never stay in Hotel Zone hostels - overpriced party houses full of 19-year-olds. Downtown puts you near authentic taquerías and R1/R2 bus lines to beaches. Mezcal Hostel is backup if Zostel is full.
