Free wifi in most cafés, all McDonald's on Champs-Élysées, tons of public spaces. Download WiFi Map app — Shows passwords for networks citywide in Marais and République.
Orange tourist SIMs €20 for 20GB data at CDG airport or any Orange store. Much cheaper than international roaming for Métro navigation.
Most Métro stations have free "WIFI_RATP" now including Lines 1, 4, and 14. Slow but works for Google Maps and WhatsApp between République and Châtelet.
Optimal Transfer Points: Muzeum station connects lines A and C with a 90-second transfer via escalator and 150-meter corridor. Alternative: Můstek station offers faster A-C transfers (45 seconds, single escalator) but gets congested during rush hours 7-9 AM and 5-7 PM. For B-line connections, use Náměstí Míru or Florenc depending on your destination.
Car Positioning Strategy: Metro cars 2-4 consistently have 30-40% fewer passengers than end cars (1, 5-6) which align with main station exits. Board these middle cars at busy stations like Anděl, Náměstí Míru, and Hlavní nádraží for guaranteed seats during peak hours. This positioning also provides faster boarding/exit at less congested doors.
Service Schedule Optimization: Final trains depart central stations (Muzeum, Můstek) at 12:00 AM, but terminus stations like Dejvická (A-line) and Háje (C-line) have last departures at 11:42 PM. Download the PID Lítačka app for real-time tracking and delay notifications—essential during weekend maintenance windows.
Underground Navigation: Můstek station's lower-level passages connect directly to Wenceslas Square underground shopping areas, bypassing surface crowds entirely. Use this route during peak tourism months (June-August) when street-level navigation becomes inefficient due to pedestrian density.
Don Mueang's free wifi works for 2 hours max, renewable by re-registering. Better than many airport wifi systems once you understand the limits.
If you need extended internet access, the 7-Eleven in arrivals hall is an option. Just buy a ฿10 water and use their connection for quick tasks like downloading offline maps.
Free wifi in Paris is decent but data roaming still worth it for Métro navigation and Google Translate on bistro menus.
SIM cards: Orange Holiday Europe — €39.99 for 30 days, 20GB data, works across EU. Buy at CDG airport or any Orange store near République or Châtelet. Lebara and Lycamobile cheaper but spottier coverage in Métro tunnels between Bastille and République.
Free wifi hotspots: All parks (Luxembourg, Tuileries) have free wifi. McDonald's on Champs-Élysées, Starbucks obvious but also Monoprix and Franprix supermarkets. Many bus stops along Boulevard Saint-Germain have wifi now though speeds vary.
Avoid: Hotel wifi often terrible and expensive in Marais boutique hotels. Café wifi usually requires purchase and is slow during peak hours around Latin Quarter.
Best option: Get Orange SIM at CDG when you land. €40 for month of worry-free connectivity worth it vs hunting for wifi constantly around République and dealing with captive portals.
Tested everything over multiple trips to tokyo. Heres what delivers reliable connectivity:
tourist sim cards: iijmio at narita airport counters ¥1500/7 days with 6gb data. Works perfectly on docomo network across yamanote line and metro
pocket wifi rental: narita/haneda airport counters ¥500/day unlimited data multiple devices. Heavy to carry but reliable coverage in tokyo subway tunnels
free wifi reality: starbucks shibuya and mcdonalds harajuku have decent free wifi. Konbini 7-eleven wifi needs japanese phone number verification - useless for tourists
recommendation: tourist sim for google maps navigation plus jr east station wifi spots. Download tokyo offline maps before arriving. Skip softbank international roaming ¥1000+/day for worse service
