Safety tips that actually matter for solo travelers in Paris arrondissements

Paris generally safe but here are practical precautions based on living in various cities:

Pickpocketing hotspots: Métro Lines 1, 4, 6, 9 during rush hour around Châtelet-Les Halles station. Areas around Eiffel Tower and Louvre Pyramide entrance. Keep phone and wallet in front pockets or bag across body around République.

Avoid after dark: northern parts of 18th and 19th arrondissements around Barbès, Château Rouge Métro area, parts of Belleville (though food scene great during day). Trust instincts — If area feels empty near République late night, find busier streets toward Marais.

Evening safety: stay in well-lit areas with foot traffic around Saint-Germain or Boulevard de Rivoli. Métro runs until 2am weekends so getting home from République isn't usually issue. Taxis safe and reasonable for late night returns to Marais.

Scams: petition signers near Eiffel Tower and Arc de Triomphe (distraction for pickpocketing), friendship bracelet sellers around Sacré-Cœur, gold ring "finders" near tourist zones. Just keep walking toward République or Châtelet.
