Events Tips for Dubai
Festivals, markets, seasonal happenings, and local events
Plaza regularly hosts free performances, especially cooler months. Peaceful pocket in downtown where you hear yourself think.
Check calendar - mostly local musicians. Sound design excellent. Thursday evening sessions particularly good.
Fully Booked hosts regular author talks and book launches most people don't know about. Comfortable reading areas and decent regional literature selection
Better atmosphere than massive Kinokuniya in Dubai Mall - less overwhelming crowds here. While both malls have their tourist trap elements, the literary events here feel more intimate and accessible.
Emirates Literature Foundation runs intimate author talks at Al Serkal Avenue galleries in Al Quoz industrial district. International authors and regional writers launching Arabic translations in 80-person venues.
Events typically 40-60 AED with smaller audiences than massive DIFC festival crowds. You can actually approach authors afterward for book signings. Take Route 8 bus from Mall of Emirates or taxi from Red Line.
