Every guide says Getty Center is free, but they charge $20 for parking and it's basically mandatory unless you want to hike up a mountain. The 'free' part is just admission after you've paid the toll.

Los Angeles County Museum of Art is $25 normally but free for California residents second Tuesday of each month. Just show ID at entrance. Saved me $50 when I brought my roommate.
Gets crowded by noon so go right at 11am opening. The contemporary art wing is huge. Allow 3-4 hours minimum. Street parking on Wilshire is free with 2-hour limits if you're lucky.
