Wheelchair accessibility in Alfama — realistic expectations and alternatives

Alfama's cobblestone streets and steep hills make wheelchair access nearly impossible. Don't let tourism sites fool you with vague "partially accessible" claims.

The Fado Museum has good wheelchair access and gives you the cultural experience without the impossible terrain. Elevator access, proper bathrooms, and air conditioning.

For views, skip the hilltop miradores and take the ferry to Cacilhas instead. Accessible boarding, great city views from the water, and costs just 1.30 euros each way. Much better than struggling up impossible hills.
