Most people hit Repulse Bay but Shek O is way more laid back. Decent surf when there's swell, usually best during typhoon season (Sept-Nov). Board rentals on the beach for around HK$150/day.

The village has proper beach town energy with seafood restaurants and bars. Bus 9 from Shau Kei Wan MTR takes about 45 minutes. Perfect for escaping the city madness.
