Parisian café culture for couples — where to linger in Marais and Saint-Germain
We spent our honeymoon hunting for cafés in Paris where we could sit for hours without dirty looks from staff around Boulevard Saint-Germain.
Café de Flore — Yes it's touristy but service genuinely friendly for lingering couples on Boulevard Saint-Germain. We sat for 3 hours with just coffee and nobody cared. €8 for café au lait but people-watching incredible and you're paying for the Sartre and de Beauvoir history.
Ten Belles near République on Rue de la Grange aux Belles — Specialty coffee, English-speaking staff, lots of couples working on laptops. More relaxed vibe than traditional Saint-Germain bistros. Their pastries excellent too and made in-house.
L'Ami Jean near Invalides Métro — We discovered their afternoon service between lunch and dinner. Almost empty, perfect for intimate conversations over wine and cheese. Staff treats couples like family in this Basque bistro.
We learned ordering something every hour around Place des Vosges or République means you can stay as long as you want. French café culture actually encourages slow enjoyment unlike American coffee shops.
