Al Ain Oasis — 5,000-year-old irrigation system still running
UNESCO World Heritage site in Al Ain. 1,200-hectare oasis with 147,000 date palms using ancient falaj irrigation that's been running for millennia. Trail difficulty: easy, mostly flat paths with shade.
The eco-center explains how the falaj channels work. Shaded walking paths between the palms feel like another world. Drive via E11/E22 highways from Dubai, about 1.5 hours, or catch intercity buses to Al Ain city.
Visit early morning or late afternoon to avoid heat. Al Ain Palace Museum nearby if you want a full day. Bring plenty of water — 3-4km of trails total.
