Spanish phrases that actually help in Cancún beyond hola/gracias
Working on Spanish and here are phrases that made a real difference in Cancún, especially downtown.
"¿Cuánto cuesta?" (How much?) - Essential for markets and street food. More effective than pointing.
"¿Hay descuento?" (Discount?) - Works surprisingly often, especially markets or cash payments.
"Sin hielo, por favor" (No ice, please) - Avoids questionable ice in drinks. Locals understand tourist caution.
"La cuenta, por favor" (Check, please) - Servers appreciate effort, you won't wait forever.
"¿Dónde está el baño?" (Where's bathroom?) - Self-explanatory necessity.
Broken Spanish gets better prices and service than English. People appreciate effort even with terrible pronunciation like mine.
