Current Operational Section: Yellow Line from Mankameshwar to Taj East Gate, covering 5.2 kilometers with 6 stations. Service began March 2024 with limited but useful connectivity to major tourist areas.

Operating Schedule: Daily service 6:00am to 10:00pm. Peak hour frequency is 5 minutes 48 seconds between trains. Tourist shuttle service operates from Taj East Gate every 20 minutes, 7:00am to 8:00pm for final approach to monument gates.

Network Limitations: Direct Taj Mahal station remains under construction as of late 2024. Current terminus at Taj East Gate requires 800-meter walk or shuttle to reach main entrance gates. Full Yellow Line extension to central Agra expected by mid-2025.

Ticketing: Token-based system with ₹10-30 fares depending on distance. QR code tickets available through mobile app. Stations include basic facilities but limited accessibility infrastructure — Confirm elevator status before travel if needed.

Train 12050 Gatimaan Express is hands down the best way to reach Agra from Delhi. Departs Hazrat Nizamuddin station at 8:10am sharp, pulls into Agra Cantt at 9:45am — Just 1 hour 35 minutes door to door. AC Chair Car tickets cost ₹1,550 and are worth every rupee for the comfort and speed.

Book exclusively through the official IRCTC website or mobile app — Never trust street booking agents who'll charge you double and potentially scam you with fake tickets. Advanced booking opens 120 days prior, and this train fills up fast during peak season (October to March).

From Agra Cantt station, auto-rickshaws to the Taj cost ₹250-300 (negotiate before getting in). The station has decent facilities including clean washrooms and food stalls. Always chain your luggage to the under-seat rings and keep valuables in a money belt — Basic train travel sense that applies everywhere in India.

For overnight options if you're coming from other cities, book AC 2-tier sleeper (₹1,500-2,500) well in advance. Our railway system gets you to Agra comfortably and safely — Just plan ahead and use official booking channels!

Everyone talks about negotiating private tuk-tuks but shared autos are way cheaper if you're not in a rush. Agra cantt station to taj east gate, shared autos run every 10 minutes for just ₹20 per person.

Look for the white and green autos with "taj mahal" painted on the side. They follow fixed routes and you can hop off anywhere along the way. ₹20 vs ₹250 for private ride — Worth it if traveling solo.

E-rickshaws everywhere in agra and way cheaper than regular tuk-tuks if you know the real rates. Taj east gate to agra fort should be ₹80-100, not the ₹300 they'll quote tourists. To sadar bazaar from anywhere central is ₹50-80 max.

The trick is to walk away when they quote double. They always come running back with the real price. Share with other tourists if heading same direction — I've split ₹60 rides four ways before.

Small boats cross the yamuna from behind the taj to mehtab bagh for ₹50 per person during peak season. It's a 5-minute ride versus 30 minutes by road, plus you get river views of the taj that most tourists never see.

Boats run when the river level permits, usually october through june. The boat guys hang around the path behind the main taj complex. Negotiate the price beforehand and make sure they'll bring you back. Prices can vary significantly based on season and demand.

The UPSRTC intercity buses from Idgah Bus Stand offer incredible savings over private tour taxis — Mathura ₹40 (1 hour), Fatehpur Sikri ₹40 (1.5 hours), Bharatpur ₹60 (2 hours) compared to ₹2,000-3,000 for hired cars covering same distances.

Buses run every 30 minutes during daytime with proper cushioned seats for longer journeys. The Mathura route passes through authentic rural Uttar Pradesh villages and agricultural areas you'd never see from expensive tour buses. Cash only at ticket counters.

Not luxurious but genuinely comfortable for day trips to Krishna temples or UNESCO World Heritage sites. You'll experience actual countryside and meet locals commuting between cities. These intercity services are significantly better than crowded city buses for tourist destinations, plus you save hundreds of rupees for better meals and shopping.

City buses from Idgah Bus Stand connect to major destinations for fraction of auto costs — Fatehpur Sikri ₹40 (1.5 hours), Mathura ₹40 (1 hour), Bharatpur ₹60 (2 hours) versus hiring autos for ₹500-800 same routes.

Buses are basic but functional with routes running every 30 minutes during day. The Mathura route passes through beautiful countryside between Agra and Krishna's birthplace. Buy tickets at UPSRTC counter with exact change, no advance booking needed.

Not ideal with heavy luggage but perfectly fine for day trips to UNESCO sites and temples. These intercity buses are more comfortable than crowded city buses for longer hauls. Check return timing at destination since last buses typically depart by 6pm from outlying areas back to Agra.

Skip long auto ride - boat across yamuna from taj ghat to mehtab bagh ₹300-500 per boat depending on bargaining saves time with different taj perspective boat guys know photo spots along river

15-30 minute ride with beautiful taj views best at sunset with good light they run until about 7pm. This is the longer scenic route with extended viewing time - quick crossings from other points cost much less but offer minimal photo opportunities.

July to september the rivers actually flowing properly and the boat rides from near taj ghat get interesting... ₹200 per person for 30-minute ride downstream past the tajs back side

Waters brown and choppy but you get this perspective you cant see from land. Most operators shut down during heavy rain but on lighter monsoon mornings its peaceful. Guy near parking area speaks english and wont try selling overpriced snacks mid-ride like others do

Small boats from taj ghat to mehtab bagh ₹500-800 per boat (bargainable) completely different perspective seeing taj from water more dramatic than standard front view best late afternoon with softer light

15-20 minutes each way boatmen know photo spots negotiate price first make sure they wait while you explore other side. This is premium pricing for the most scenic route - budget crossings from other departure points start much lower.

The shared auto-rickshaws or tempos that run fixed routes through old agra are the cheapest way to get around!! ₹10-15 per person from sadar bazaar to kinari bazaar area. They follow set routes but you need to know the stops

Just ask locally where they pick up from. Not comfortable but very authentic local experience and saves money if youre doing multiple market stops in a day. These are different from private e-rickshaws which charge tourist rates - tempos are shared transport following set routes.
