Rome tram route 3 guide — scenic alternative to crowded metro

Tram 3 runs Valle Giulia near Villa Borghese to Stazione Trastevere, hitting major sights above ground. Same €1.50 ticket as metro but you actually see the city.

Key stops: Valle Giulia → Piazza del Popolo → Ara Pacis → Lungotevere (tiber river views) → Trastevere station. Total journey 71 minutes, runs every 12-15 minutes.

Board at front door with validated ticket. Gets crowded 8-9am and 5-7pm but otherwise plenty of seats. Much more pleasant than packed metro Line A during tourist season.

The lungotevere section runs right along the river with castle and bridge views you miss underground. Perfect for getting oriented to city layout on first day.
