Mucha's Municipal House Art Nouveau walk — Prague's Obecní dům to Pařížská street gems
Prague isn't just medieval Gothic and baroque Habsburg. The art nouveau architecture from the Czech National Revival is stunning if you know where to look.
Start at Municipal House (Obecní dům) on náměstí Republiky - Alfons Mucha designed the interior murals in the Mayor's Hall. Then Hotel Europa on Wenceslas Square with its gilt facades, followed by the apartment buildings on Pařížská street in Jewish Quarter.
Look up from street level. The decorative ironwork and facade details showcase Czech nationalist symbolism from the 1900s independence movement. Most buildings are still in use so you're not paying museum admission fees.
End at Mucha Museum (Panská 7) to see his Slav Epic poster work, then grab coffee at Café Louvre where Mucha and Kafka once met.
