Richmond Park deer watching — massive royal park with wild herds 30 minutes from central London
Richmond Park covers 2,500 acres of proper countryside just 30 minutes from central London on the District Line to Richmond station. Home to over 600 red and fallow deer that roam completely free across the grasslands.
Best viewing is early morning (7-9am) when they're most active, particularly around Pen Ponds area. During rutting season (September-October) the stags become aggressive so maintain 50+ meter distance. Richmond Gate is about 15 minutes walk from the station.
Bring proper walking boots as it's all grass and dirt paths. Free parking available if driving but fills up by 10am on weekends.
