Mount Charleston - real elevation gain 45 minutes out
If you need actual mountains after too much flat desert, Mount Charleston tops out at 11,916 feet and it's a completely different world. Take the 95 north for 45 minutes and you'll climb from 2,000 to 8,000+ feet at trailheads. Pack layers - can be 40 degrees cooler than Vegas even in summer.
Trail to Charleston Peak is 17.5 miles round trip, strenuous but worth it for people who can handle elevation. Shorter trails like Cathedral Rock give you mountain views without the full commitment. Way fewer crowds than Red Rock too.
