The botanical gardens are completely peaceful before 9am. No tour groups, just locals doing morning exercise and birds everywhere. The orchid garden section is especially beautiful in early morning light.

Free entry, and you can walk to the Bird Park from here if you want to keep exploring. Much better than fighting crowds at the main attractions during peak hours. Bring water and comfortable shoes.
