Budapest winter guide - thermal baths in snow

Why Winter Works

Everyone visits Budapest in summer, but winter (November-February) is underrated. Thermal baths are magical when snow falls around you at Széchenyi - 38°C water while it's freezing outside.

Christmas Markets

Vörösmarty Square market runs mid-November to early January. Touristy but beautiful chimney cake and mulled wine. St. Stephen's Basilica has smaller, less crowded market.

Winter Practicalities

Layer up - buildings are heated but outdoor sightseeing is bitter. Museums perfect for cold days. Restaurant terraces close but cozy wine bars open up. Hotel prices drop 30-50% vs peak season.

Castle Hill in snow at sunset is incredible.
