Hidden tea houses in old shophouses — proper loose leaf away from chains

The best tea experiences hide in converted Chinatown shophouses where elderly Chinese proprietors serve gongfu-style tea ceremonies. Traditional temple areas have several excellent spots tourists walk past completely.

Proper oolong and pu-erh teas at reasonable prices, unlimited refills, traditional brewing methods. Much more authentic than westernized bubble tea chains dominating tourist areas.

Look for red lanterns and older buildings — These places don't advertise in English but welcome respectful tea appreciation.
